GST registration – zero-rated biz

I have a business selling vegetables which is zero-rated gst and the sales is more than RM500k within 12 months. Can I choose not to register GST? If yes is that mean i totally ignore it or I should apply for gst registration exemption? and any documents will be received?

A person who makes wholly zero-rated supplies must be registered for GST if the value of the annual taxable turnover exceeds RM500,000. However, he may request for approval from the Director General to be exempted from registration. The effect of the exemption from registration to a person making wholly zero-rated supplies is that, the exempted person cannot claim input tax credit on any input tax incurred in furtherance of his business.

The rationale of giving such an exemption is to provide an option to such a person whether to register or not for GST as his compliance costs may outweigh the benefits of claiming input tax credit.

To apply for exemption from registration using GST-Adm11 form – “Application For Goods and Services Tax Registration Exemption”.

Hi CMS, If the person does not apply for exemption and the revenue has been surpassed 500k, will this trigger any penalty?

It is better and advisable to apply to the DG for compliance and I think there is no penalty for not do so.
